The Sleeping Tiger - английский фильм 1954 года, снят американским режиссером Joseph Losey, уехавшим в Британию из-за того, что был в черных списках времен Маккарти. фильм снял под псевдонимом Victor Hanbury. фильм удивительный во многих отношениях. чего там только нет: и мизогиния, и психоанализ, и nurture vs nature, и вообще этакое британское Собачье сердце.

замечательные сцены в ночном клубе (Metro, a seedy Soho nightclub - Wiki). тут (Another Old Movie Blog) - длинная рецензия, много снимков. в главной женской роли - Alexis Smith, характерный пример актрисы, которая мне совсем не нравится. ни в каком отношении. да и Dirk Bogarde - тоже довольно неприятный тип. зато Alexander Knox (профессор Преображенский) - очень даже, хотя роль у него не слишком выигрышная.

многие кадры абсолютно смехотворны, например плачущий Bogarde (Bogarde has a good scene here, breaking down and sobbing the story of his life - это из Another Old Movie Blog), и как полицейский инспектор долго разглядывает сюрреалистическую картинку на стене (что-то вроде Миро). сам инспектор похож на Этуша (товарищ Саахов, да).

on Plomin's Blueprint

Families and schools are what we think of as “nurture” and one interpretation of Blueprint is to see it as a salvo in the ongoing nature-nurture debate—a devastating, war-winning salvo. But it doesn’t follow that Plomin thinks the environment, as distinct from nurture, has no effect on the way people turn out.

The environmental inputs that matter most, according to him, are what he calls our “non-shared” experiences—“unsystematic, idiosyncratic, or serendipitous events,” often mediated by our genetic predispositions. So when Plomin says genetics is by far the greatest systematic force in making us who we are, he isn’t saying the environment has no effect. It’s just that the environmental inputs that do have an impact are, for the most part, unsystematic.
