Never mind the comfort blanket, I found this article and its main protagonist absolutely hilarious. Has the thought occurred to anyone else that Birnbaum reads like a character from a Saul Bellow novel? Birnbaum's Guff perhaps? I mean a self-promoting Jewish jeweller from Manhattan solves the mystery of the universe sitting on a beach in Barbados, and then steamrollers various academics with his money and his chutzpah and his backstreet etiquette. Shame Bellow isn't around to write it. IrishIain
