The victim, identified only as Mrs. Bagwell, had been instructed to offer herself to Pepys by her husband, who thought it would help his advancement. “The story,” notes Tomalin, “is a shameful one of a woman used by two bullies: her husband, hoping for promotion, and Pepys, who was to arrange it. Pepys did not present it in quite those terms, but it is clearly how it was.”

Big Little Lies

был такой анекдот про японских туристов в СССР, которым всё показывали, а потом спросили, какое у них впечатление, ну они и сказали: "Дети у вас замечательные. А вот то, что вы руками делаете..."

это можно отнести к сериалу Big Little Lies. дети там чудесные, и играют отлично. а вот все остальные... начиная с деревянной Madeline Mackenzie, и далее со всеми остановками. забавно, что муж ее выглядит заметно ее моложе. да и муж этой жуткой Renata Klein.

заодно про кино добавлю, что Pale Rider - исключительно идиотский фильм, и то, что он является highest-grossing Western of the 1980s много говорит о зрителях. разве что если сравнить его с чудовищным Django Unchained, который received five Golden Globe Award nominations, можно понять, что у этой пропасти нет дна.

Django я выключил через 20 минут.

upd 7/25/19: вот и до Guardian новость докатилась: Yuval Noah Harari admits approving censored Russian translation. а в BBC только в русской редакции разрешили сообщить: Писатель Юваль Харари о цензуре в России: "Я не выбираю мир, в котором живу". ах какой заголовок, сразу видно - профессионалы.
