A few days later, the Education Commission of the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, approved (three votes against one) a resolution drafted by its president, condemning the book. In the course of the debate, Marina Solodkin and other deputies from the Kadima party went so far as to consider whether it might be appropriate to start thinking about a trial. In any case, the discussion quickly moved on to the broader question of how to control history. Several deputies attacked the “new historians” who have, in recent years, looked closely at the heroic image of the birth of the state of Israel. Those deputies expressed the desire to look into the possibility of creating a “system of scientific control” that would “deter the publication of texts that are entirely in disaccord with human logic, human ethics and scientific truth.”
