Wittgenstein was infamous for being rather poorly read in the history of philosophy, and really in philosophy generally. For example, he confessed to his students (Drury, p. 158; Britton, p. 209) that he had never read any Aristotle! But another friend and student, von Wright (p. 33), reported that “he did read and enjoy Plato.” -- Socrates vs. Wittgenstein
