Metal Thieves etc

Metal Thieves Are Stripping America’s Cities: Across the country, copper and other valuable materials have been stolen from , statues and even gravesites, costing millions to repair.

US military to shut down embattled Gaza aid pier

Starmer quizzed over Biden's gaffe at Nato summit: With President Zelensky standing just yards away, President Biden managed to introduce him as President Putin.

One U.S. Navy secret weapon in the Red Sea? Sailor morale

UK nuclear missile test fails for second time in eight years “We are confident that the anomaly was event specific, and therefore there are no implications for the reliability of the wider Trident missile systems and stockpile.” Mr Shapps said he has "absolute confidence" in Trident's submarines, missiles and nuclear warheads.

Why Are You Seeing So Many Bad Digital Ads Now?

Major social media platforms are now “like the mall in your hometown that used to be the good mall, but now there’s no longer a Macy’s there — it’s just a calendar store and a place selling beepers.”
When Did Hospitality Get So Hostile? с цитатой их самой Дерриды: “How can we distinguish between a guest and a parasite?” the French philosopher Jacques Derrida muses in “Of Hospitality” (2000).

Repeat Election in Berlin Speaks to the ‘Chaos’ Many Residents Feel

разве что вот хорошая новость от euronews: ‘Unspeakable botch’: Spain spends €258 million on trains that are too big for its tunnels

Lockheed F-104 Starfighter

The safety record of the F-104 Starfighter became high-profile news in the mid-1960s, especially in West Germany. West Germany initially ordered 309 F-104s, and over time another 607. Deliveries of Lockheed-built aircraft started in August 1961, and domestically produced airframes began to roll off the assembly lines in December. That same month, the first of an eventual total of 292 West German F-104s had crashed. -- Wiki

internet outage caused by 'maintenance'

Canada's internet outage caused by 'maintenance':
Transport, banking and emergency services were all hit by Friday's blackout, with 911 hotlines and bank ATMs left unavailable.

Canadians flocked to coffee shops and libraries to find a connection.

The service outage began at 04:30 local time (08:30 GMT) on Friday and lasted for more than 15 hours, but most services have now been restored.

Mr Staffieri said the maintenance work "caused some of our routers to malfunction early Friday morning".

The outage had a huge effect on a wide range of services across Canada, serving as a reminder of how reliant society has become on modern communications.

A U.S. Navy Commander admitted to taking bribes involving prostitutes, meals, entertainment, cash and other gifts amounting to a total of a quarter-million dollars from a foreign defense contractor in Singapore known as “Fat Leonard.”

. No, Wind Farms Aren’t the Main Cause of the Texas Blackouts - ключевое слово тут main

. An Artist Exposing Fascism Through Provocation

Facebook Blocks News in Australia, Diverging With Google on Proposed Law

. Thousands of service members saying no to COVID-19 vaccine

. Biden takes heat for ‘different norms’ remark while discussing China, human rights

. If Classics Doesn’t Change, Let It Burn - статья понятно о чем. The Chronicle of Higher Education - no shit

Ouch, That Hurts

Citigroup made a huge mistake last summer, when instead of transferring an $8 million interest payment from Revlon to its creditors, it transferred nearly $900 million of the bank’s own funds — the full amount of principal on the loan that wasn’t due for another few years. Some creditors promptly returned $400 million of the mistakenly wired money, but 10 others refused to return $500 million. The dispute ended up in court.

Yesterday, unexpectedly, a New York federal judge said the firms could keep the cash, despite acknowledging that the money had been transferred in error.

We were a laughing stock

'We were a laughing stock': Berlin airport finally finished as Covid bites
Almost three decades after the plans were first mooted, over nine years behind schedule and more than €4bn (£3.6bn) over budget, Berlin’s new international airport is finally ready to open its doors.

The airport, originally scheduled to open in 2011, five years after building began in 2006, was delayed due to faulty construction planning, management issues, and corruption.
