The book is clearly biased: "Danton... was becoming a rabble-rousing force", "...poisonous Marat", and talking about Robespierre's "recurring paranoia" while in the next paragraph giving evidence of Mirabeau's accepting payments from the court. She writes herself: "Robespierre in his darkest nightmares scarcely imagined such treachery."
And foreign troops ready to invade... and émigrés plotting...
